We've finally moved!!! We are settling into our new home, and couldn't be happier. Visit us for a soft open this week, with limited hours and menu while we practice our espresso making skills. Starting Monday, August 15, we'll be operating at full hours and menu. Can't wait to see you here!

1517 Pine Street, between Polk & Van Ness. 415-674-1069. 7am-7pm, daily.

PINE COMING SOON! Moving day is August 3!

Jen M.Comment

Just about every person who walks in the door at Polk or sees me out and about asks, "WHEN ARE YOU MOVING?!?!" Well, to be honest, it's been a total moving target, so this question has made me cringe all summer. We've been waiting on a PG&E upgrade and have been delayed several times since May. Fingers crossed that all the false starts are behind us... we've marked the calendar to move August 3! Our last day open at Polk Street will be Tuesday, August 2, and we will be closed to the public for a handful of days while we move the BIG equipment in, situate ourselves, and prepare staff for the operations of the new shop! The kiosk, One Market Plaza, and farmer's market locations will still be open as usual!

We'll be updating the exact timeline as we go, but expect to find us open by Monday, August 8! In addition to all of your favorite baked goods, we will be serving Equator coffee & espresso (yay, espresso!). Please come check out our new home - we can't wait to welcome you! Look for us at 1517 Pine Street, on the south side of the street between Polk and Van Ness. Look for the red lights & door! It's only about seven blocks up the hill from our Polk Street location... so you can earn those cookies.

Polk street merchant neighbors, we'll miss you! We'll be back to visit often... thanks for a great 4.75 years at 2127 Polk!

May is an exciting time for us here at Batter! We are nearing the completion of our new shop + kitchen buildout at 1517 Pine Street and we will be opening our new retail shop at 1 Market Plaza! We couldn't be more excited to settle into our new baking kitchen + cafe, just a handful of blocks up the hill.  Here is where you come in... Please help support our new kitchen buildout AND score yourself bonus edible credits on Credibles. Here's how it works! You purchase treat credits, redeemable at any of our retail locations (OR for shipping orders, special events, office parties, etc.), and receive bonus dollar value AND edible gifts from us. No sweet tooth? Credibles can be purchased as gifts for others.

Are you a Flour Fanatic, a Cookie Connoisseur, Sand Angel?  We can't wait to see!

May is MOVING MONTH (times two)!

Jen M.Comment

This May marks a month filled with TONS of exciting change for us!

First, let's mark the milestone of May 15... On that date 8 years ago I jumped ship from a "real" job, and took Batter from a side project to my full-time, self-supporting gig. It's been terrifying and exciting (and, honestly, still is, now more than ever!). Support our exciting changes and earn bonus treats for yourself through edible credits on our Credibles page. We'll be oh-so-grateful if you do!

On May 6 we will be closing our Embarcadero Center pop-up. "EC2" as we fondly call it, was opened two and a half years ago with the intention of just being a two-month holiday pop up shop. That timeline obviously changed, and we've loved providing treats to everyone in the offices above. We are excited to announce that we will be moving our second FiDi retail spot to 1 Market Plaza! Look for our opening mid-May (exact date to be updated soon, but don't worry, we won't be closed for too long!).

Our BIG move comes at the end of the month. Our Polk Street kitchen + shop will be moving just up the hill to 1517 Pine Street, between Polk and Van Ness. Construction is moving along, turning this space into our new kitchen. We will offer allll of your favorite baked treats, as well as espresso (yay!), and even more ice cream sandwiches (just in time for summer). We can't wait to see all of your faces there in June!

Staff Spotlight! Joanna Strahm, Batter Bakery PDX Manager

Jen M.Comment

Second in our series of staff spotlights is Joanna Strahm, our Batter Bakery Portland pioneer! Joanna started as a baker's assistant in February 2013, shortly after graduating from Tante Marie's Pastry School. Joanna worked her way through responsibilities in the San Francisco kitchen, from a quiet baker's assistant, to an incredibly efficient and goal-driven kitchen manager. Joanna was notorious for buzzing around the kitchen, baking up a storm while making sure everyone was on task and moving as quickly as possible. Always bandana clad, this tiny gal made a big impact on the Batter kitchen.

When the upsetting news came that Joanna's husband had taken a job in Portland and they would be moving away, we considered that, perhaps, this would not be the end of Joanna's time at Batter, but rather the beginning of a new chapter. Joanna immediately began furious research and we decided, yes, this would be an excellent next step. Joanna arrived in Portland and began establishing wholesale accounts, found a kitchen to bake from, and secured several initial pop-ups to begin to spread the word about Batter PDX. Only a few months later, Jo has established some serious cookie footing in Portland. Look for her this Spring at the Moreland and Happy Valley Farmer's Markets, at the Portland Night Markets, and at many more special events to come!
